Is 100% made in Indian phone possible?
Frankly speaking, No. A smartphone contains hundreds of components. At present, India only can build almost 50 – 60% of a smartphone.
The rest of the components we need to import from other countries like the USA, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, etc.
There are two major processor manufacturing companies Qualcomm and MediaTek. Qualcomm is an American company, whereas MediaTek is a Taiwanese company.
At present, they don’t have any manufacturing unit In India. So for chipset, India needs to depend on these countries.
Then we need an Image sensor for smartphone cameras. Samsung, Sony, and OmniVision are the three companies that provide Image sensors for smartphones.
Sadly there is no manufacturing unit for Image sensors in India. We also need to import it from countries like China, South Korea, etc.
India has many manufacturing units for smartphone batteries. But India has a minimal amount of Lithium reserve, which is the main component for a mobile battery.
So we need to import it from countries like Argentina, Chile, China, etc.
From the above points, it’s clear that 100% made In India phones are impossible. All Indian mobile companies need to import components from other countries.
